Best Brake Controller and Towing Set Up for a 2019 Kia Telluride
Question:
I own a 2019 Kia Telluride SUV. The vehicle is supposed to be rated to tow 5000 lbs. I will be towing travel trailer approx 4000lbs and need to add a brake controller. What do I need to do to be equipped to safely tow? Thanks!!!

I would be happy to help you find a brake controller and set up your 2020 Kia Telluride to safely tow your trailer. I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller item # RED24FR. The Liberty is a proportional brake controller that activates your trailers brakes when your Telluride decelerates. It also has a unique installation method where the main portion of the brake controller is installed behind your dash and the only visible portion is the control knob.
If your Telluride has the factory tow package you will be able to use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter item # TK78VR and the Redarc Tow-Pro Wiring Adapter item # 331-TPH-017 to have a complete plug and play installation. This will require no cutting or splicing of wires and will plug directly into a port behind your dash. If you do not have the tow package you will need the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers item # RED69FR.
We have a couple of other mounting options for the control knob that can go inside inserts in your dash. This will give you a clean factory look install. The Universal Mounting Panel for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controller Control Knob item # 331-TPSI-001 which measures 1-1/4 by 1 inch. There is also the option of using the Mounting Panel for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controller Control Knob item # 331-TPSI-002 for the more standard knock-out measuring 1-1/4 by 7/8 inch. I have linked a couple diagrams to show you the dimensions of these mounts.
I have listed below some other parts you will need to tow your trailer. You can verify your Kia's towing capacity by calling your local dealership and giving them your VIN.
Hitch Receiver - etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver item # e45ZR.
Ball Mount Kit - Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534
Wiring Harness - Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat item # ETBC7
I have linked installation videos below of all of these products being installed on a Telluride.
