Bike Rack Recommendation for 2 50-Pound E-Bikes on a 2022 Hyundai Elantra
Question:
Do you have a way for me to carry 1 or 2 electric bikes weighing around 50 pounds for my car.

Expert Reply:
Yes! The best and safest way to transport 1 or 2 50 pound e-bikes on your 2022 Hyundai Elantra is by using a hitch-mounted bike rack. If you need a hitch for your vehicle, the only hitch we carry that is confirmed to fit your Elantra is the Draw-Tite - 1-1/4" # DT75MR. This hitch provides you with 200 pounds of maximum tongue weight capacity and 2,000 pounds of gross towing weight capacity. It also installs with a concealed crosstube that gives your new vehicle a factory look without any bulky eyesores. It is important to note that this hitch does not fit N Line or Hybrid models. We unfortunately do not carry hitches for these submodels of Elantras.
As far as the rack itself, I recommend the Saris Freedom Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # SA4412B or the fat-bike version # SA4412B-FB if you happen to have tires that measure between 2-1/4 and 5 inches wide. Not only is this rack compatible with maximum wheelbases of 48" from axle to axle, it also includes 8 inches of additional rise to maximize ground clearance. Also, the Freedom comes with a super long shank that measures 12 inches from the center of the pinhole to the closest part of the rack. With a shank this long, you won't have any bumper clearance issues when using the # DT75MR. The rack is also perfect for Class I hitches. As a cherry on top, you do not need a bike frame adapter bar when using the Freedom if you happen to have step-thru frames, women's bikes, or children's bikes. This is because the Freedom comes with independently-adjusting cradles that adjust to fit virtually any bike style.
For added theft-deterrence on the Freedom, I recommend using the Hitch Tite Hitch Lock # SA3022 along with the etrailer Cable Lock # e98891. These components will add a layer of protection for both the bikes and the rack itself.
