How to Tow a 5th Wheel With a 2004 Chevy Silverado 3500 Western Hauler With Installed Gooseneck

Question:

I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado 3500 Western Hauler. It has the hauler bed with a fixed gooseneck ball, and I need to install a fifth wheel. The plate installed for the gooseneck ball is 1/2" thick and it is approximately 30" by 30". It was installed by Western Hauler as part of the bed. Do you have a recommendation for a fifth wheel. I'm looking at a commercial application.

I have a great solution for you to tow a 5th wheel with your 2004 Chevy Silverado 3500 Western Hauler that has a gooseneck installed.

I recommend installing a Reese Goose Box Adapter. The Reese # RP85FR fits either the Lippert 0719, 1621 or 1621HD pin boxes or the Fabex PB-600 series pin boxes.

This adapter has a 20k lbs GTW. This method is actually the safest out there, however if you are not always towing the same 5th wheel trailer with the same pin box, because these are pin box specific, may not be the most economical way to proceed.

Finally, I have attached a FAQ article that covers different adapters that are used when towing a 5th wheel with a gooseneck ball.
