Parts Needed To Flat Tow 2011 Honda CR-V Behind Diesel Pusher
Question:
I have a 2015 discovery diesel that will pull a 2011 Honda CRV. I like the Demco stay and play along with E-Trailer 10,000 tow bar. Could you put a complete package together for everything needed to be road ready. My guess would be a base plate, wiring, brake system and tow bar. I would like your recommendations to purchase

We have everything you need. You are looking at five primary components for a safe flat towing setup; a base plate kit, a tow bar, safety cables, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.
- Base Plate, etrailer Invisible Base Plate Kit, # e98956
- Tow Bar, etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar - 6,000 lbs, # e34ZR (This includes the needed safety cables.)
- Wiring Solution, Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles, # HM56300 along with, Brake-Lite Relay Kit, # RM-88400
- supplemental Braking, Brake Buddy Stealth Supplemental Braking System, # HM39530
The etrailer Invisible Base Plate Kit, # e98956 is compatible with all etrailer, Demco, and Blue Ox tow bars. There are adapters sold separately that all for use Roadmaster and Sterling tow bars.
The etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar, # e34ZR is rated for 6K which is more than enough for a 2011 Honda CR-V but you did mention the higher rated etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar, # e94ZR rated at 10,500 lbs. Either will work for your situation.
What I really like about the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles, # HM56300 is its ease of installation, it's a plug-in harness. There are no wires to be cut and spliced and we have an installation video created of this being installed on a 2011 Honda CR-V. Please note the link below.
I've included the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles, # RM-88400 as this kit is to prevent your Honda's brake signal from overriding the turn signal that comes from your motorhome. Installation video for this is linked too.
You mentioned the Demco Stay-IN-Play, # DM86VR which is a great braking system and one I recommend often but it is not compatible with your 2015 Discovery. This is why I recommend the Brake Buddy Stealth Supplemental Braking System, # HM39530. It too is a fixed, semi-permanent installation like the Demco but this has the advantage of being a direct plug in to the recommended wiring harness, # HM56300. And yes we also have a video of this being installed on Honda CR-V. The added bonus the Stealth controller doesn't just work when you're towing a car. It also acts as a proportional trailer brake controller for when you're towing a trailer. Just press the mode control button on the side of the controller to switch from supplemental braking system mode to trailer braking mode.
