Can Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00 Be Used with Slipper Springs

Question:

I am interested in converting my trailer springs to the top of the axle with the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit. My axle is 2 3/8. I note it says for double eye springs only. My springs are the slipper type. Will the K71-384-00 work or are there other concerns? I would weld the spring seats to the axle.

Unfortunately the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit, part # K71-384-00, is specified by Dexter for use only with double-eye springs. It is not suitable for use with slipper springs.

One option you could consider is to replace the spring hangers on your trailer with longer ones. This will have the effect of lifting your trailer frame relative to the axle. Do please note that this will also raise the center of gravity of the trailer and alter its handling to some degree.
