Since you have stated you want access to your rear cargo area on your Subaru Outback, I would suggest a hitch mounted bike rack. Please refer to your owner's manual or your dealership for the towing capacity of your vehicle.
I would recommend the Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount - Tilting # C18085. This rack is a platform style rack that will fit either a 1-1/4 in or 2 in receiver and is compatible with Class l and Class ll hitches. It has cushioned clamps that allow you to secure bikes of different heights to the rack. It also has adjustable wheel mounts that accept different wheel sizes and wheelbases and features a tilting design that makes access to the rear cargo area easier. This rack has a weight capacity of 90 lbs total or 45 lbs per bike.
If you do not have a hitch installed on your vehicle, we have some hitch options to consider. The hitches we offer depend on your vehicle style. If you have the Sport style, I would recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch for the Subaru Outback Wagon, part # C11315. This is a Class l hitch that has a 1-1/4 in x 1-1/4 in receiver opening and has a weight capacity of 200 lbs.
If you do not have the Sport model, I would recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch for the Subaru Outback Wagon, part # 36493. This Class ll hitch has a 1-1/4 in x 1-1/4 in receiver opening, and has a tongue weight capacity of 300 lbs. I have linked you to an installation video.
