Front Mount Hitch Recommendation for a 2005 F-250 or F-350 to Use a Motorcycle Carrier

Question:

Need a solution. Recently went from toy hauler to standard 5th wheel and need a way to carry a bike. Bit concerned about putting it on the front of the truck but have little choice. What is recommended hitch and your thoughts? Thanks,

For your 2005 Ford F-250 or F-350 Crew Cab the only front mounted hitch that we offer is the Draw-Tite # 65022, please note that this front mount hitch receiver has a maximum weight limit of 500 pounds of vertical load.

I have included the installation instructions for this hitch. Please note that your front fog lights will need to be removed for the hitch installation, and can not be re-installed and used while the front mount hitch is in place. The tow hooks will also be removed for the installation of the hitch but can be re-installed and used after the hitch installation is complete. There will also be some drilling involved to install this front mount hitch.

You can use the etrailer Motorcycle Carrier, part # e98873, in this front mounted hitch, this carrier has a maximum weight limit of 500 pounds which is the same as receiver weight limitation is 500 pounds. Always make sure that you are not exceeding the lowest rated component of the system.

I advise verifying the front axle weight rating of your truck and making sure that it is not exceeded with the weight of the hitch installed, bike carrier, and the bike fully loaded.

There are several issues that you should take into consideration before using this front mounted hitch to haul your dirt bike on the front of your truck. Depending on the dimensions of bike that you are intending to use on this carrier, be aware that the airflow to your trucks radiator may be severely decreased. You will definitely need to keep an eye on your temperature gauges especially when towing your 5th Wheel Camper.

You might consider both an engine and transmission cooler since the airflow will be decreased by carrying your bike on the front of your truck. If there is space available I suggest using a combination cooler that will cool both the engine oil and the transmission fluid like the Derale Econo-Cool Combo Engine and Transmission cooler # D15230. This combination cooler can be mounted anywhere within the engine compartment that is a reasonable distance for routing the cooling lines and the power input. This combination cooler has an electric fan incorporated to optimize airflow and fluid cooling. I have included a couple of links to some helpful articles about engine and transmission coolers for your reference.

Depending on the height of the bike your front visibility could be hindered. You will also want to make sure that your headlights are visible and not obstructed, as well as your front license plate.
