Troubleshooting No Brake Output Power With Prodigy P2 on 2017 Ford E450

Question:

I purchased and installed the Prodigy P2 and wiring harness you supplied to plug into the existing wiring in my smallish Ford powered motorhome. Installation was exactly like the video on your site, was very easy...pulled dash apart, found wiring plug...installed the wiring, plugged in Prodigy. Started rig, powered right up. I have no trailer yet. I purchased a small 7 pin tester locally, a Curt 58270 tester. I went thru the motions....turn signals, brake lights, 12v....everything works, according to the little tester. BUT....I get no indication of power to electric brakes, and Prodigy still says NC. Everything worked so smoothly...i suspect the little tester/emulator cost me $12...isnt up to snuff....but just wanted your opinion before I drive for an hour to pick up the trailer. Does a TRAILER have to be connected? Do these little 7 blade testers not work? As I said....everything went just like the video said...so smooth... 2017 Coachmen Leprechaun 240FS ford e450?

I am assuming you are testing while using the manual override. It should still send power with the manual override even with the trailer disconnected. If you were using the brakes on your motorhome then the problem is that you are using a proportional controller but you aren't moving so there will be no brake output. Based on the fact that the tester works for the other functions it is unlikely that the tester is failing.

Since this is a new brake controller and wiring harness, it is also unlikely that there is a problem with the # 90885 and # 3034-P, but it is not impossible. You may also want to double check the plugs from the wiring harness. Unplug the wiring harness and plug it back in again in order to make sure it is fully seated.

If this does not fix the problem you can check the controller directly by severing the blue wire a few inches back and testing for power with a circuit tester like the # PTW2993. If you are not getting power then it may be the controller itself. If you are getting power, then it is likely you have a short in the blue wire somewhere and you will need to locate and repair the short.

If you are still unable to locate or resolve the issue please let me know and we can continue to troubleshoot.
