Recommended Suspension Enhancement for 2021 GMC 1500 AT4

Question:

Would you recommend timbren or sumosprings bump stop system or air bags for a 2021 GMC 1500 AT4 for pulling a heavy travel trailer? Not looking to spend $1,000 because I might trade it in on a 3/4 ton to pull a 7,000 lb bumper pull travel trailer or maybe moving up to a fifth wheel. We pull the trailer several times a year on long trips and get some sway in heavy winds and big trucks.

I would recommend air bags over the other options for pulling your travel trailer with your 2021 GMC Sierra 1500. There are two different options here. Typically with air bags, Firestone is the way to go. They have the best construction and are going to be the most reliable. You would need the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs - Double Convoluted - Rear Axle # F2609. Since you have the AT4 you would also need the Lift Spacers for Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2366 for installation.

The only thing that may deter you from these is if you really think you might switch to a 5th wheel. These install on the frame in the same location as most 5th wheel and gooseneck brackets, and may not be compatible with an in-bed hitch. If it seems likely that you will make that switch then I would choose the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Air Helper Springs # AL88388 since they are compatible with an in-bed hitch.

I would also recommend adding an air compressor like the Firestone Air Command II # F2178. This will allow you to control the air pressure wherever you go from the cab of your truck. It is a dual path system so you can control each air bag individually. Although you were looking to keep cost down, I would consider this if you think you would add air bags with a different vehicle since you could transfer the compressor over.

I have attached some review and installation videos for your reference.
