Thule Tepui Rooftop Tent Compatibility With Raised Roof Rails On A 2007 Toyota 4Runner

Question:

Will the Thule Tepui Foothill tent work with my 2007-Toyota 4runner-Limited? I have stock, raised side rails but have the Yakima TimberLine Towers with 70inch Yakima CoreBar crossbars. I know that can easily fit the 24inch min. crossbar spacing. Only concern is that install instructions it states: When mounting Thule rooftop tents to vehicles with raised side rails: 1. Make sure raised rails are structurally supported. 2. Make sure crossbars are positioned next to supports of raised rails. - I do not have any supports along the length of the raised side rails of my 4runner. Will this be an issue when ing the crossbar placement locations and mounting the tent on the vehicle? Should I have the crossbars spaced evenly out in relationship to the mounting tracks on the tent TO the ends of the raised side rail bases where its bolted. OR how would you recommend finding the correct crossbar locations if I do not have supports along the length of the raised side rails?? Thanks for the help!! Cheers

Expert Reply:

Yakima has a great little guide for their rooftop tents, which I've attached below to demonstrate supported rails. Thule requires that raised rails have supports under the railing where the crossbars are located (pic #2). Because you don't have supports under your rails the Thule Tepui Rooftop Tent # TH37HJ will not be compatible.

The Yakima SkyRise HD Tent for Roof Rack Crossbars # Y07437 would be compatible as long as your rails are supported on each end. This tent requires a crossbar spread of 26" to 40.5". It also has a 96" maximum distance from top of crossbar to the ground. As long as you follow these requirements and ensure your rails are supported you'll be able to use this tent.
