Factory Installed Brake Controller Compatibility With HydraStar HBA-10 on 2013 GMC 3500 Pickup
Question:
I have 2, 2013 GM 3500 trucks I want to pull a trailer equipted with the HBA-10. One has a Prodigy 2 installed and the other has not been upgraded yet. Will the HCA installed on the trailer still work with the Prodigy 2 or do I need to install the HCA on the truck with the factory brake controller. Thank you for your consideration.

Expert Reply:
The HydraStar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator, part # HBA-10, is compatible with the Prodigy 2 brake controller you have installed on one of your GMC 3500 trucks.
The GMC 3500 you have that has a factory brake controller installed is unfortunately not compatible with the # HBA-10 actuator installed on your trailer. If you choose to use the factory brake controller, you will need the Control Adapter Module, part # HBA-CAM. Installing the HBA-CAM will work well with the Tekonsha P2 as well.
Since you are familiar with the operation of the Tekonsha Brake Controller, part # 90885, you may wish to consider upgrading your factory installed controller which would be compatible with the HBA-10 already installed on your trailer. I have linked you to an article that explains aftermarket wiring for brake controllers.
