Question:

Can I switch to a 5x5 3500 hub. I have a 2000lbs 5x4.5 # 8 - 256. If so what hub would that be ?

You mentioned you had a 2,000 lb 08-256 hub, though that number represents a 3,500 lb hub. You may be able to switch to the 3,500 lb, 5 on 5" bolt pattern 8-256 hub, but you'll need to know either your bearing numbers or the measurements of your spindle where the bearings ride. First, here is the part you would need:

- Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 3,500-lb Axles - 5 on 5 # 84550BX

You can use the # 84550BX if your current hub uses inner bearing # L68149 (1.378" inner diameter) and outer bearing # L44649 (1.063" inner diameter), or if you measure your spindle and get the same inner diameters of the bearings.
