What Do I Need To Flat Tow My 2016 GMC Yukon

Question:

Good evening I will be up next Thursday and Friday staying in the area in my 2016 GMC Yukon Denali XL. We would like to look into the option of being able to tow it behind our motorhome. I understand we need to install a braking system remote battery disconnect and the towing pins. Ty

If your 2016 GMC Yukon Denali is 4WD with a two-speed transfer case, you will be able to flat-tow it four wheels on the ground. You will need the following items, a base plate, towbar, safety cables, a supplemental braking system, and custom wiring. If you have a 2WD Yukon Denali, you will need to tow it on a dolly.

The base plate I recommend is the Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms, part # RM-523179-4. You can disconnect the arms on this base plate when your vehicle is not being flat towed, but you will not see the baseplate when not in use.

I recommend the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar - Motorhome Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000 lbs, part # RM-522. It is a non binding tow bar that can be attached to your vehicle, even at an angle because of its telescoping arms and large hookup radius.

You can use the Roadmaster 80" Coiled Safety Cables - Double Hook - 10,000 lbs - Qty 2, part # RM-653. I prefer the the coiled safety cables because they are easier to store and these are rated up to 10,000 lbs.

You should use a proportional supplemental braking system. With this type of braking system, your flat-towed vehicle will apply the same braking power as your motorhome. I recommend the Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System - Proportional, part # HM39524.

Lastly, you will need the wiring. The Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit, part # RM-154, will allow your flat-towed vehicle to mirror the stop and turn signals on your motorhome. You also need to add the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch for Towed Vehicle w/ Supplemental Braking System, part # RM-766, this will enable you to disconnect your battery while your vehicle is being flat towed.

I have included product description links and video links below.
