How To Uninstall/Install A New Lippert Coach Step Motor
Question:
Is it necessary to place the step in up or down position when installing the new motor/gear box or does the controller sense the position and make the necessary adjustments to open and close the steps?

It isn't detailed whether or not the steps need to be in the up or down position to install the Replacement Motor for Lippert Electric Coach Step # LC301695.
To replace the old motor you will need to disconnect the two pin connector from the module to the motor.
Next, remove the p-clamp holding the wire harness to the motor mount.
Then, remove the ball joint linkage from the gear followed by the self-tapping screw that holds the ground wire.
Finally, remove the 3 bolts that hold the motor mount to the step base. Be careful that you do not disturb the adjustment in the length of the ball joint linkage.
To install the motor, simply repeat these step in the reverse order.
