Longer Yakima Hitch Bolt Recommendation to go From 1-1/4 in Hitch to 2 in Hitch

Question:

I have an older Yakima ROC4 bike carrier. Unfortunately my new car only allowed a 1 1/4 hitch. My ROC4 is 2. I bought an adapter that allows my hitch to accept 2inch I only use two bikes at most so the weight penalty is not a problem but the bolt on the Yakima ROC4 is too short to work with the adapter. Is there a longer bolt that will work with the ROC4 and a 1 1/4 to 2inch adapter?

I spoke to my contact at Yakima and he said that you would need a Replacement Mounting Hardware Hitch bolt # Y8890176. He said this will give you the additional length you need from your hitch bolt to work on a 2 inch hitch adapter.

You should note that anytime you use any type of hitch adapter or extender you effectively cut the capacity of the hitch in half due to the increased leverage and moving parts. So you should consult your owners manual to determine the capacity of your hitch and be sure not to exceed half of that with your rack and bikes.
