Recommended Hitch For 2018 F-150 With 5-1/2' Bed
Question:
I have a 2018 ford f150 DIESEL crew cab with a 5 1/2 foot bed. I need to be able to pull my 2003 30ft 5th wheel camper. I know I need to have an automatic sliding 5th wheel hitch. Im thinking of getting the Demco DM850041. I need to know what underbed instalation kit will work with it and fit my truck. What else do I need to do or know to tow my camper? What would you recommend for my situation? The camper weighs about 7500 to 8000 pounds

Helpful Expert Reply:
For your 2018 F-150 With 5-1/2' Bed, I suggest the either the 20K Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, # RP30928 or the 16K Reese, # RP30047. Each these will installed using the Reese Quick-Install Custom Outboard Installation Kit w/ Base Rails, # RP56034-53. You will then of course need a rotating turret type pin box installed on your 5th wheel. This is the best known arrangement for the for 5-1/2' bed F-150.
You will also want the Bargman 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness for Aluminum Truck Bed - 7 Way RV - 9' Long, # 50-97-410-010.
The Demco Hijacker 13K # DM8550040 is a great hitch with a full slide movement of 22-1/2 inches. However, the bed rails of the Ford F-150 set high enough that interference was an issue, even with the hitch height setting at max. So we no longer recommend this for the ultra-short bed Fords.
Let us know what pin box you currently have on your 5th wheel for us to make a recommendation of proper pin box. Please note the linked help articles on pin boxes that I attached below.
