Is Idler Hub With 6 on 5-1/2 Inch Bolt Pattern Available for 3500 lb Axle
Question:
I have a utility trailer that I would like to change the 5x4.5 idler hubs on. I believe the axle is 3500 or less. I have a set of Toyota Tacoma 6x5.5 wheels that I would like to put on the trailer. What idler hubs do I need? Would I need a spacer? Thanks for the help

If your existing axle does indeed have a 3500 lb capacity, the # AKIHUB-655-35-EZ-K idler hub which has a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern.
You can confirm whether you have a 3500 lb axle by pulling one of the hubs, removing the inner and outer wheel bearing and examining the sides of the cages that hold the roller bearings. There will be a reference number engraved on the side of the bearing cages. If the numbers read L68149 on the larger inner bearing and L44649 on the smaller outer bearing, you do indeed have a 3500 lb axle.
If there is NOT a reference number on the bearings, you'll need to use a digital caliper like # PTW80157 to measure the inner diameter of the bearings. If the inside diameter of the larger bearing is 1.378 inches and the ID of the smaller is 1.063 inches, then you have a 3500 lb axle and the idler hub you'd looked at would work great.
If your axle has a lower capacity, a hub with a 6 lug bolt pattern isn't available.
Whether a spacer is needed will depend on the offset of the wheels you're using. Trailer wheels typically have a zero offset.
