Measurements Needed to Determine Replacement Bearings Without Having Old Bearings Numbers

Question:

I bought a trailer that had been taken apart and left. It has just the spindles. I also have a custom built oxy-acetylene cart that has hubs, wheels 3-bolt and tires Michelin X 135SR15 ZX suitable for a trailer. What measurements do I need to get bearings that will work for this setup?

I advise measuring the two spindles that you have and making sure that the parts that you are wanting to interchange will be a compatible fit. I have included a photo that shows where where to take these measurements on your exiting spindles. These measurements will need to be as precise as possible, so I recommend using digital dial calipers.

If you have determined that the two spindles are similar in size and you can interchange the parts that you needed, then based on the measurements of your spindle you can then determine which bearings would be best for the trailer that you are constructing.

If after measuring the spindles and hubs that you intend to use and you determine that they are not considered a compatible fit; then the measurements on the spindle will indicate which hubs as well as bearings would work with that spindle.
