Do The Trailer Suspension Hangers & Equalizers Need To Be Changed Going From 3,500 to 6,000LB Axles?

Question:

How do I choose which kind of axle hangers and equalizers to use for a triple axle trailer. I currently have 3 3500lbs axles and am upgrading to 3 6000lbs axles

You may be able to use the same hangers and equalizers that are already being used on your triple axle trailer. First you will need to determine if you will be changing wheel and tire sizes that will require you to move the axles further apart so that the tires do not contact each other. This may also affect your trailer fenders if the axles are being spread further.

If your tire spacing is okay you will then only need to find the larger capacity leaf springs that match the length of your current leaf springs. If you can provide me with dimensions of your springs I can help find the replacements. You will also need new U-Bolt Kits # APUBR-8 for each axle since you are moving up to a 3" diameter axle.

If you are moving to larger tires you will need to consider the height difference of the larger tires to ensure that you will still have sufficient tire clearance. You will need to add the height of the larger tires to your current hanger height to determine the correct height of the new hangers/equalizers. If you can provide me with the new tire height versus old I can help you find the correct replacement hangers/equalizers.
