Recommended Rooftop Cargo Bag for 2006 Audi Avant with Factory Raised Roof Rails

Question:

What carrier do you recommend for my 2006 Audi A4 avant? It has rails not flush but I do not have cross bars. Id rather not have to get cross bars but is the carrier going to be secure and not flap up if I dont have them? Thanks!

As long as the existing side rails on your roof will allow the straps to attach, the Rightline Edge roof bag, part # RL100S30 would be a great choice for you. Ideally, we would want to see crossbars which would prevent the bag from sliding forward or rearward during braking and acceleration but its not absolutely necessary.

If you do decide to add crossbars, Rhino Rack offers reasonably-priced crossbars assembled from parts # RRVA106B-2 and # RRSX100.

Before installing a cargo bag or anything else that would sit directly upon the painted surface of your vehicle, you will want to make absolutely sure that the roof and the bottom of the bag are completely free of dirt and grit of any kind. Using a non-skid mat like part # RL100650 would prevent the bag from moving about and possibly scratching your roof. A tire mounted step like part # HE4040 would make accessing your roof mounted cargo much safer and easier.
