When it comes to a winch on a front mounted hitch like the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # 31302 you will be limited by the line pull. You can put any size winch on the hitch as long as you do not exceed the line pull of the hitch or the winch, whichever is lower.
For example, you could use the Bulldog Winch Standard Series Off-Road Winch - Wire Rope - Roller Fairlead - 9,500 lbs # BDW10042 and mount it with the Bulldog Winch Hitch Mounted Winch Mounting Plate with Handles - 2" x 2" Hitch # BDW20011. The rated line pull for the winch is 9,500 lbs and the line pull for the Curt hitch is 9,000 lbs. As long as you do not go over 9,000 lbs you can use the winch.
