From the vehicle you entered into our fitguide, I believe you are looking for a flat-tow setup for a 2021 Ford Escape. I confirmed with the Ford owner's manual that you cannot flat-tow or dolly-tow if your vehicle is the standard gasoline model (AWD only). This is because vehicle and/or transmission damage can occur. If you have this model, Ford recommends to use a flat-backed trailer.
If you have a FWD gasoline model, you will be able to dolly-tow. I recommend using the Demco Kar Kaddy X Tow Dolly w/ Disc Brakes - Tilt Bed Frame - 4,800 lbs # DM9713093. The Kar Kaddy X will work with your FWD escape if your tread width is between 42" - 78". I recommend confirming the width of your vehicle before making this purchase. Along with the dolly, you will not need to purchase a brake controller because the brakes don't require an electrical signal to activate. If you need a 4-way on the vehicle side, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Harness # TE54FR for brake light, turn signal, and running light functions.
If you have a hybrid/plug-in hybrid model, Ford confirmed that you can flat-tow your vehicle with all 4 wheels on the ground. For the parts needed, you need a base plate, a tow bar, a tow braking system, safety cables, and vehicle tow wiring. Unfortunately, we do not have a tow bar that is compatible with a plug-in style hybrid. However, if you have a standard hybrid model, I recommend the following parts:
- Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM39FR (non-plug in style Hybrid only)
- Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar for Blue Ox Base Plates - Motorhome Mount - 2" Hitch # RM-525
- Demco Coiled Safety Cables - 14,000 lbs - 86" Long # DM9523003
- Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39524 with the Brake Light Relay # RM-88400
- Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-152-98146-7 with Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25
The great thing about the Roadmaster base plate kit is that is simply installs into your Escape's chassis. It comes with all required hardware. As far as the Falcon 2 tow bar, it allows for you to easily release your vehicle even in uneven ground and simply slides into the RV's hitch receiver without the need of a ball mount. In addition, you will also receive the proportional action of the Brake Buddy 3 which applies the Escape's brakes at the same level that you apply the brakes to your RV. With the diode kit, this will allow you to connect your RV's tail, brake, and turn signal lights to your Escape's lighting system.
