Recommended Sway Control When Towing a Travel Trailer Without a Weight Distribution Hitch

Question:

We have a 2015 Ram 5500. Will be towing a 38 TT. We dont really require a WD sustem, but want to have an anti sway device. Best recommendation? Electronic looks good but dread installation due to belly covering. Mechanical choices?

I do find that the electric Tuson Asymmetric Sway Control # 335TSC-1000 to be the best route as once it is installed it is the easiest to use. It will not be as difficult to install since the main unit is mounted 5-10' behind the ball mount and you will be able to fish the wiring through the underbelly.

For mechanical the Shocker Hitch HD Air 2-Ball Mount w/ Sway Control Tabs # SHK45VR will likely be the type of ball mount you need as it has dual sway control connections and up to a 3-1/2" drop. This will allow you to use 2 of the Reese Friction Sway Control Kits # 83660. The Reese is one of the few mechanical sway bars that can be used on either the drivers or passenger sides of the frame. With this type of setup the sway bars must be removed before backing up. I also recommend removing them if you are driving on very twisty roads as the bars can become damaged when making several abrupt steering direction changes.
