Do I Need Suspension Enhancement for 2004 C1500 LS Silverado Truck When Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

I own a 2004 C1500 LS series short bed pickup. It does not have a towing package on it and I was wondering if I would need to install some type of air shocks for lift if towing a 24 through 38 type of 5th Wheel?

Adding an Air Spring or Rubber Enhancement Springs to the suspension of your vehicle will provide for a more stable, smoother ride and will provide additional support, but will not increase the towing capacity of your vehicle.

If you are planning on towing a fifth-wheel trailer that is at or very close to the vehicles capacity, then it would be a good idea to use some sort of suspension enhancement. This will increase the life of your vehicle suspension by absorbing the rough areas on the road and taking some of the stress off of the vehicle.

You did not state whether the truck is two or four wheel drive so I cannot make a specific recommendation, but we have two types of suspension enhancement available. The first and easiest to install is the Timbren rubber enhancement springs. These install and are built specifically for the vehicles suspension and weight capacity to provide the right amount of support and cushioning no matter the load. The second is the Firestone air springs. The Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs installation is more involved but the support and ride is user adjustable for a quality ride and carrying heavy loads.

You can view some additional information on both styles at the links provided, as well as typical installation videos for both brands.
