Troubleshooting No Power/Low Power Coming From Factory Brake Controller  

Question:

We have a 2005 f350 King ranch with built in brake controller. Giving barley any power to 7 pin connector at bumper. Occasionally truck will read trailer fault at start up with no trailer connected.

In order to troubleshoot this problem I recommend checking the blue wire about 6" back from the brake controller. Check the voltage there using a circuit tester like the # PTW2993. If you find that you get the same low reading then it is time to replace the brake controller with one like the # 90195. If the reading is normal then it is likely bad wire running to the 7-way. You could replace your wire with # 10-1-1.
