Cargo Carrier Options While Towing Small Camper
Question:
Hi, Id like to know if its possible to add an extension to a cargo carrier to attach a tent trailer? Ive look a multiple solutions but dont think either would work. Ive looked at having a dual hitch, putting the cargo at the top and an extension in the bottom with a ball. But since the neck of the tent trailer is small I wont have room for the cargo carrier in between the car and the tent trailer. Another thing Ive looked at was having a hitch attached to the bumper of the tent trailer, but the bumpers are C channel beams which Im pretty sure is recommended to not have any sort of weight on them. If an extension to a cargo carrier isnt recommended as well, do you happen to jave a suggestion on how I can bring a cargo carrier along with a tent trailer? Thanks for your time!

We don't offer an extension such as what you speak of. Once you get a couple feet rearward of where the hitch and cargo carrier meet, any extension would act like a lever that would apply too much force to the hitch which would cause it to fail.
We do offer a solution that might work for you, though. The Stromberg Carlson # CC-255 A-frame mounted cargo tray would attach to the A-frame of your tent trailer. As long as you have about 30 inches of available space between the camper and the rear of the tow vehicle at 29 inches above the top of the trailer frame, the # CC-255 would be a good choice. You can see a product demonstration video by clicking the provided link.
Installing a roof rack and cargo basket on the tow vehicle would be another option. If you'd care to reply with the year, make and model of the tow vehicle, I'd be happy to recommend a roof rack and cargo basket option.
