What Timbren Axle-Less System For 5,000 lb Tandem-Axle Trailer

Question:

Hi, I am designing a trailer currently and would like to get some dimensions of the unit so that I can included it in my CAD model. I also have some questions in regards to loads etc. The trailer will be a 4 place double axle aluminum enclosed trailer that will weigh in around 1700 lbs empty. I was looking at the 1200 lb axles - thinking that puts me close to 5K overall load. Should I go heavier?

Yes, for your tandem axle trailer you should indeed go heavier than a pair of the 1,200 lb Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # ASR1200S04. The 1,200 lbs is the capacity of the entire system, so two of the # ASR1200S04 for your tandem axle trailer would be a total capacity of 2,400 lbs.

There are a couple of options, depending on the total weight of the trailer, since you mentioned it is in design.

- 2,200 lb Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # ASR1THDS01

- 3,500 lb Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # ASR3500S05

I recommend going with the higher-rated Timbrens for a 5,000 lb trailer to ensure it covers the total capacities; better to have the system rated for more than you need compared to not being rated highly enough.

Both systems have brake flanges, and work with the same hubs, the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 84545UC1-EZ or Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 84546UC3-EZ.

As for dimensions, there is a link on the bottom of the Timbren product page which all of the available dimensions. IT says "Alternate Instructions" but indeed is dimensions.
