Troubleshooting Accessing Brake Switch for Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Install on 2020 Toyota Highlander

Question:

I have successfully installed the oem trailer hitch and Toyota tow converter, as well as your ETBC7 kit. I’m trying to install the Redarc tow pro elite and have fount it nearly impossible to tap into the brake signal wire from the back of the brake switch, it’s too tight to properly test the extremely fine wires as suggested in your installation videos for earlier Highlander models. I’m also wary after reading a few forums of causing damage to the braking system wiring very fine delicate wires as it is far more complex than the older Highlander models in the videos. I see that Redarc recommends and has an inline protection device EPDK-001 for preventing back signal to the vehicle. If I get that device, can I tap into the stop wire ajust before the trailer 7-pin connector at the back of the vehicle and run a 12 gauge wire from the protection device to the tow pro which is mounted under the dash? Should I mount the protection device close to the tow pro, or near the spliced wire just before the 7-pin connector at the bumper? It has been challenging to get a straight answer on installation of the tow pro in the latest 4th generation Toyota Highlanders. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

The best solution for your problem is going to be installing the Roadmaster Universal Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751000. This will give you separate wire you can easily access and you won't have to worry about causing any damage to the wiring on your Highlander. This kit is frequently used when it is difficult or impossible to access the stop light switch on a vehicle for a brake controller.

I have attached an installation video on a different vehicle so you can see what the process is like.
