Recommended Replacement Tires for 2014 Palomino Columbus 385BH

Question:

My 5th wheel currently has 235/80R16 load range E tires, and it’s time to replace them. The rims are stamped 110psi and 3950 pounds… does this mean I could upgrade to a G rated tire, and the natural temperature rise is factored in, or does the 110psi max mean 110 max, period? Would I be better off going to a 235/85R16, or going up in load range? We have a 2014 Palomino Columbus 385BH, and had 13480 pounds on the trailer wheels when I weighed it a couple of days ago.

Expert Reply:

When it comes to replacing the tires on your 2014 Palomino Columbus 385BH I recommend sticking with the same size you currently have. The 110 psi should not be exceeded and is determined by the valve stem.

This can easily be changed by adding valve stems like the Americana Metal, Bolt-In Valve Stem # AM20906 which are rated for up to 200 psi. This will allow you to use load range G tires like the Westlake ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire # WE76FR without any issues. These tires have a maximum load of 4,080 lbs at 110 psi and a maximum speed of 75 mph. Keep in mind, you will be limited by the capacity of the wheels at 3,950 lbs or any other component with a lower rating.
