On a 2007 Chevy Silverado that has the integrated brake controller, in order to get an aftermarket controller to work you will need to disconnect the blue wire that you have connected. Then you will need to attach a length of # 12-1-1 to the brake controller blue wire. Then you need to run it through the firewall, under the truck, to the 7-Way and install it in place of the wire that is already there in the 7:00 position or cut the wire coming out of that location (blue) and attach it to the wire you ran.
Avoid areas that may pinch or burn the wire when you route it under the truck. I have included a link to an FAQ article that covers all of this for you. The 12-1-1 wire is sold in 1 foot increments so getting about 20 feet by changing the quantity to 20 would be the way to go.
