Expert Reply:
Yes, you can flat tow your 1992 Jeep Wrangler YJ regardless of the model or transmission option.
Start by bringing your Wrangler to a complete stop and stop on a level surface behind your tow vehicle. Since you mentioned it is an automatic, you'll want to do the following to correctly prep your Wrangler for flat towing:
-Begin by depressing the bake pedal and switch the transmission into neutral.
-Next, turn the engine off, and switch the transfer case into neutral, and restart the motor.
-Continue by putting the transmission in drive, and release the brake pedal for a few seconds to ensure there is no movement with the vehicle.
-Once you've verified that there is no movement with the vehicle, put the vehicle in park, and turn the engine off.
-Now, engage the parking brake and hook up your Wrangler to your tow vehicle. Once the vehicle is hooked up, release the parking brake, and you'll be ready to roll.
To actually hook up your Wrangler to your tow vehicle, you're going to need the following:
-A base plate like the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1137, and tow bars, like the Blue-Ox Alpha 2 # BX7380. These tow bars are a great option, and is capable of handling up to 6,500-lbs, and will fit the base plate # BX1137.
-You're also going to need tow bar wiring # RM-152-LED-7, and a braking system like the Roadmaster EvenBrake # RM-9400. This braking system is simple to use, lightweight, and is a portable system, meaning, you can transport this braking system to different toad vehicles if desired.
-Finally, you're more than likely going to need a high-low adapter to keep your toad level while towing. You can use an adapter like the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter # RM-048-4, but you'll want to check your rise and drop first before deciding on one to use. I've attached an article detailing on how you can choose a high-low adapter.
