Recommended 4-Way and 7-Way Wiring For Towing With 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
If I were to hypothetically tow a trailer with my 2021 Grand Cherokee I would need something to power the lights and brakes on a trailer in addition to my trailer hitch right? So, lets just say I'm like hey, I want to tow a trailer with my hitch, what do I need to add to make that happen? I mean, what would the options be here? I may or may not be towing a trailer sometime in the future potentially maybe. This is all just theoretical.

In order to hypothetically tow a trailer you are correct, you will need wiring to connect to your trailer. The first thing you will need is a 4-way wiring harness. The best and most reliable choice is the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118727. This will plug into existing wiring, providing you with a connection to power your trailer's signal lights.
Once this is installed, you would need to add the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This kit comes with a 7-way adapter, wiring, and everything else you need to upgrade a 4-way connection to a 7-way connection. The adapter also maintains the 4-way functionality should you need it.
Since you might be towing a trailer in the future you would also want a ball mount. Check out the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900. This kit has two ball mounts, one with a 3/4" rise or 2" drop and the other with a 2-3/4" rise or 4" drop. It also comes with a 1-7/8" and 2" ball, as well as a ball mount bag to store everything in.
I have attached some review and installation videos for your reference.
