Largest Transmission Cooler for a 2004 GMC Savana 3500 Van Using Existing Cooler Lines

Question:

I have a 2004 gmc savana 3500, 1 ton box van, with a 6.0 liter eng, 383ci.. I would like to replace the existing factor transmission cooler with a much larger transmission cooler. This is a work vehicle and is used to haul and to tow a trailer in the las vegas heat. I Want the largest possible cooler but I would like to use the factor cooler lines that are already in place and do not want to cut the lines. Do you have a transmission cooler that can be connected to the existing cooler lines or some adapters that could be used to connect to the existing cooler lines?

The largest transmission cooler we have for your 2004 GMC Savana Van is the Derale Series 7000 # D13105 which measures 16-5/8 inch wide x 12-5/8 inch tall x 3/4 inch deep, you will also need the Derale Adapter Fitting # D13018 that you referenced for this installation.

You will need to measure the area in your engine to determine your available space for a transmission cooler, although the Derale # D13105 is the largest, you will need to check your vehicle to verify the fit.

My technical contact informed me that you will not necessarily have to replace your cooler lines that are already in place. Derale uses standard hose sizes, so they should match up to your vehicle, but, if you let me know what line size you have I will check out the options to see what will fit.

I have attached a link that shows you all of the transmission coolers available for your van. If you know how much room you have, you just need to pick your cooler by that specification.

Derale does note that these coolers fit most GMC Savana Vans with 5/16 inch transmission lines, but not all. In some cases, additional fittings or alteration of the OEM lines or hoses may be required for installation.

I have attached a FAQ article covering transmission coolers.
