The Thule Apex # TH9025XT comes nearly fully assembled. All you will need to do is put the anti-sway cages on the cradles and the rubber straps. If you are using the rack in a 2 inch hitch you would also put the sleeve on the shank. It will probably take you 10 minutes at most from opening the box to putting it in the trailer hitch.

The 2006 Ford Explorer could have either a 2 inch or 1-1/4 inch receiver. You can measure the receiver opening ahead of time if you want. This rack will fit either size so it is not something you have to know in order to get the correct rack.

If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical mens bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # TH982XT. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have to use these adapters and without them my wifes bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my sons bike at all. I have linked a video that shows how the adapter works.
