Troubleshooting Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller Not Working On Brake Pedal After Collision

Question:

Hi. Ford installed prodigy P2 trailer brake at dealership. I was at a stop with the camper and got rear-ended at a low speed. Totaled the camper but now the new camper brakes wont activate when I press the brake pedal. Camper brakes work manually, and truck has brake lights, checked the brake controller fuse and its good.

It sounds like the inertia sensor inside the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885 was damaged in the accident. To determine if it is that or the brake switch on your 2018 Ford F-150 you will need to check the red wire for voltage when you press the brake pedal. A Test Light # PTW2993 will allow you to check the red wire coming into the brake controller for voltage.

If you have voltage coming into the red wire when you press the brake pedal then you know that the Prodigy is damaged. If there is no voltage to the red wire when you press on the brake pedal then there is likely an issue with the brake switch that is not sending power to that circuit.
