Draw-Tite Brake Controller # 5504 Does Not Have Power After Switching Out Goosenecks on a 1999 Z71

First thing you need to do is trace back and make sure your Draw-Tite Controller # 5504 is properly and securely hooked up. Your issue sounds as if your black 12V POWER wire has come loose and is not pulling the voltage.

I have attached the installation directions as well as the wiring diagram; however, I will briefly go through them.

Start with your black wire; it needs to run from the brake controller to the 20A Auto-Reset Circuit Breaker, such as Pollak # PK54520. The red wire runs from the brake controller and attaches to the cold side of the stoplight switch that is located behind your brake pedal (this is the wire that carries signal only when the pedal is pressed). The blue wire goes from the brake controller to the pin at the 5:00 position of your 7-way connector. Finally, the white ground wire attaches to the negative post on your battery.

A couple of side notes that you may want to consider: first, if by chance when fixing your blown fuses your black 12V battery wire and your white ground wire were reversed, even for a moment, you could have damaged your brake controller; second, if the black battery wire happened to be wired into either the fuse panel or any accessory wiring, this can also cause damage to the brake controller.

My technical contact at Draw-Tite indicated that you probably just need to re-install your brake controller and after that it should work fine, provided the black and white wires were not inadvertently switched. Because your controller works when you push on your brake and squeeze the lever on the controller, that is telling us that you have a voltage issue.
