Is There A 10" Brake Drum With The 4 On 4 Bolt Pattern?

Greetings, I need two brake drum and hub assemblies for a 15foot 1966 Aristocrat Lo-Liner. Trailer weighs less than 2200 lbs. Original drums are 10inch 4 on 4. I cant find them anywhere. Have I just overlooked them somewhere on the site? Alternatively, is there any reason I cant convert both sides to more common 5 on 4.5 or something? Last night I ordered some 13inch wheels and tires, but if I CAN and should convert from the 4 on 4 to a 5 on ____ then Id like to see if I can change my wheel and tire order to a 14inch setup. Ample room in wheel wells Very much appreciate your input, thanks!

I can honestly say that this is the first time I have seen the 4 on 4 bolt pattern on a 10" brake drum, so this is not a common one. With that said, I do think it is a good idea to swap over to the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. This will also have 10" drums available, but they are going to be typically found on a 3,500 pound axle, so you will need to check your bearing numbers. If you take a look at the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-35-K, it will have the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern, but will use the inner bearing # L68149 (1.378" inner diameter) and outer bearing # L44649 (1.063" inner diameter).

From looking at your pictures, though I couldn't tell for sure, it looks like you may have the no longer used shorter "stubby" spindle. The trailer hubs we carry are all around 4-1/2" deep and the "stubby" ones will measure 3-1/2" (roughly). If this is the case, we will not have a hub that will fit, even if the bearings match. This means your only option will be to replace the axle.

Doing this will require you to measure from hub face to hub face and from the center of one spring seat to the center of the other. As an example, the Dexter 3,500 pound axle # T3584F-8974 will measure 89" (hub face) and 74" (spring center). We do have a few other options, but if your measurements are completely different from what we have, you will need to contact a local Dexter dealer to have an axle built to your specifications.

If your hubs do measure 4-1/2" deep though, then you will just need to verify the bearings to make sure the replacement hub will fit properly.
