What is Needed to use a Luggage Rack on a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox
Question:
When I bought my Equinox at first glance I thought it had a hitch, but when we went to add a luggage hauler we realized it was for a bike rack. Is this indeed only a bike rack or can we get a converter and haul more the 55lb that the current hole is telling us?

I do have a solution for you. According to the owners manual for your 2015 Chevrolet Equinox, only a frame mounted hitch should be used. There are different classes of trailer hitches, but even a Class I which is the lowest class would have a weight capacity higher than 55 lbs. Given that information, I am wondering if someone put a bumper mounted hitch on your Equinox, which would not be recommended and goes against the owners manual.
The solution I have and what I recommend is that you get the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98865. This is a Class III hitch that will provide you with a 2" receiver opening which is the most common size used for hitch mounted accessories such as bike racks and cargo carriers. It also has a weight rating of 350 lbs. for hitch mounted accessories. You just need to be sure you do not exceed the weight limit recommended for your Equinox by the manufacturer. The # e98865 is made in the USA and features a bolt-on, no-drill installation.
There is a chance that you do not need to upgrade your hitch, but I am not entirely sure what kind of set-up you have going on. I couldn't find any information about a bike rack only, 55 lb. hitch for an Equinox. If you wanted to send in some pictures of the set-up you have, I can take a look at it and see if I can find out further.
