Can I Fit Tires With a Higher Load Capacity On My 2019 Forest River Wolf Pup 16BHS Travel Trailer?

Question:

Own a 2019 Wolf Pup 16BHS, Lippert frame and axle. Castle Rock tires ST226 ST205/75R14, 8 load range, D105/101L, max load single axle 2040 lbs at 65 psi, 5 on 4.5 hole pattern, Rim is 14 X 5.5. Had a blow out, Castle Rock was nice enough to replace tire. My Wolf Pup weighs about 3,800 lbs, is at the high end of its GVWR of 3877 lbs. Am thinking of putting on a slightly larger rim and tire with higher weight ratings. Any suggestions?

I recommend looking at the ST215/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # TTWTRTM2157514D. This tire is going to be 1/2" wider and 1/2" taller and will mount on your current wheels. You will need to verify on your 2019 Forest River Wolf Pup 16BHS has the roof for the slightly larger tires. The tire carries a slightly higher maximum load rating at 2,200lbs per tire giving you 4,400lbs total weight capacity. This is going to be 900lbs over the 3,500lbs axle rating on your Wolf Pup. If you were to go much higher you may create a harsher ride and have tire clearance issues. This way you also will not have to get new wheels.

If you do not have the additional clearance I do feel that the ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10235 is a superior tire to the Castle Rock.
