100lb Regulator Does Not Work In Cold Weather, But Works In Warm Weather

Question:

I have a 100lb tank that provides propane to a GE profile 30inch cooktop. Recently in the evenings with the cold temperatures it has stopped working when it warms up during the day it works. Is the regulator bad? Can it be fixed? I would rather just by a new one as this one is 12yrs old. I believe there is a marking that says 450lp on the regulator.

Expert Reply:

If a regulator is left outside, they can freeze up. There is a small bleed hole on the outside of the regulator that water can collect in and then freeze with the fuel shut off. The water will thaw out with warmer weather, which is why its works when it warms up. You should just need to dry out the regulator, and keep an eye on it.

If you're still having an issue and want to just replace the regulator, the Camco Horizontal 2-Stage Propane Regulator w/ P.O.L # CAM59333 will work great for you.
