Replacement Trailer Tire for Utility Trailer With P185/75-14

Question:

I took the wheel and tire from my Class II utility trailer in for repair and was told I need to replace the tire and that it’s actually a passenger tire. I’m not sure that I need a trailer tire if it’s more expensive, but I’m having trouble finding one online. Is the sizing different? The tire is P185/75D/14. Are there other sizes I could consider for these wheels and this trailer?

Expert Reply:

The closest tire size we have to the passenger vehicle tire size you mentioned of P185/75-14 is the size ST205/75-14 like the part # AM10235 which would work well. Vehicle tires are more designed for steering axles so their sidewalls aren't reinforced enough for the vertical load of a trailer so we recommend strongly you go with a trailer tire instead of what you have now.
