Can I Use Rola Keys/Lock Cylinders for in Thule Products?

Question:

I read online that someone had luck with Rola locks as a replacement for Thule equipment. They claimed this worked because the Rola ion key was slightly longer: These Rola cores are identical to Thule lock cores and will work in Thule accessories. Correspondingly, Thule cores will work in Rola accessories if you have the marginally longer Rola ion key optionally available or slightly file down an additional 1/8inch of the base of the Thule ion key. Does this seem possible? Thanks.

I brought your question to my experts here at etrailer, and we have unanimously have not heard of neighbors using Thule locks/keys and Rola locks/keys interchangeably. However, we do have some replacement options for Thule products only. Usually, manufacturers do not make interchangeable lock cores/keys that work with other manufacturers.

If you need a replacement key/cylinder combination for your Thule product, that part is the Thule One-Key System Lock Cylinders # TH450200.

If you only need a replacement key, there is usually a number written around the lock cylinder. Feel free to respond to this answer with that cylinder number and I will be happy to assist you in getting the correct replacement key.
