Trunk-Mount Bike Carrier Recommendation for 2013 Toyota Rav4 XLE with Rear Spoiler
Question:
Is there a hatch mounted bike carrier available for the 2013 Rav4? I am concerned about damage to the extended lip over the rear window in the XLE model. Thank you.

Vehicles like your 2013 Toyota RAV4 XLE with a rear spoiler can pose a challenge to fitting a typical trunk-mount bike carrier. Also please note that all trunk-mount carriers will prevent use of your rear wiper.
But there is a 2-bike carrier from Yakima, the Fullback, part # Y02634, that is designed to fit vehicles such as your RAV4 with a rear spoiler. This high-rise folding steel carrier includes dual arms, anti-sway cradles to safely support your bikes and adjustable cam-buckle straps to secure it to your RAV4. This carrier does has integrated locks to secure your bikes and the rack. There is also a 3-bike version of this, the FullBack # Y02633.
If you will regularly carry 3-bikes, or if you anticipate ever using a cargo carrier or towing a trailer, a better long-term option may be to install a trailer hitch receiver. A hitch-mount bike carrier will not interfere with your rear wiper or spoiler and will allow you to use a larger capacity carrier. It will also give you the capability to use a hitch-mount cargo carrier or to tow a trailer. Please refer to the linked article that reviews the various types of bike carriers.
For example, we offer the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e98864 that bolts on with included hardware without drilling or welding. This hitch offers a 525-lb tongue weight capacity, which means it can easily handle the weight of any hitch-mount carrier and your bikes. We offer both platform- and hanging-style carriers; some can fold up when not in use, while others offer included locks. Please refer to the included link for hitch carriers; you can use the filters at left to narrow the results to those carriers with the features you most prefer and with the capacity you need.
For example, in a hanging carrier we offer the cost-effective Swagman Original 4-bike carrier, # S64400. If you prefer a platform carrier there are options for this type shown on the other provided link.
