Will 2012 Jayco Eagle HT26.5 with Reese Revolution Pin Box Fit 2013 Ford F150 with 5-1/2 ft Box
Question:
Looked at the QandA but havent seen this particular question... Considering a purchase of a 2012 Jayco Eagle HT 265 that comes with the Reece Revolution hitch. Getting different messages on whether we will have enough clearance with a standard fifth wheel hitch given we have a 5 1/2ft box. Also different messages on whether an automatic slider hitch is necessary and not to use the revolution hitch option. Curious as to whether one could use the revolution hitch and go with a manual slider to provide extra comfort and options. Understand that much of this comes down to the fifth wheel hitch installation and whether the center of 5th-wheel hitch jaw would be over the rear axle or 1 1/2 inches in front of the axle. Even on this point there seems to be differences of opinion. Insights? Recommendations?

Short box trucks such as your 2013 Ford F-150 with 5-1/2-foot box will have more clearance with a Reese Revolution pin box than with a standard pin box/slider combination.
The Revolution (and Sidewinder) pin boxes provide an additional 22 inches of clearance from the king pin, while a slider hitch will provide a maximum of 12 inches of travel. I suggest that before purchasing anything you take measurements to determine your potential cab-to-5th wheel clearance.
For example, if you are using a 5th wheel hitch install kit like the Reese # RP50081-58, which is specified for your 2013 F-150, you can use the following formula to determine the widest trailer that will still allow 90-degree turns.
Measure the distance from the rear of the cab to a point 1-1/2-inches forward of the rear axle. To this figure add the 22 inches of clearance provided by the Revolution pin box. Multiply this figure by 2 and subtract 4 inches. The resulting figure will be the widest trailer that will still allow a full 90-degree turning radius. The 2012 Jayco Eagle HT 26.5 is 96-inches wide.de
