I would be happy to help you find a brake controller and a 7-Way plug for your 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. I did some research and the tow/haul mode is a standard option and doesn't necessarily mean you have the factory tow package. You're going to need the Pollak 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector Socket w/ Wiring Harness item # PK11898. This kit provides a 7-Way connector and a mounting bracket. The wiring harness includes a 4', color-coded, 7-wire lead. I have attached an installation video so you can see the process and what the final product looks like installed.
For your brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller item # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller that works with trailers having up to 4 axles. The brake controller activates your trailer brakes in proportion to your vehicle's braking action. It automatically adjusts the trailer's braking based on deceleration of your vehicle.
You will also want to get the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - GM item # 3025-P. This is a plug and play adapter that requires no cutting or splicing. All you will need to do is find the right port under your dash and plug in the brake controller and you're ready to go. I have linked an installation video for the Tekonsha brake controller as well.
