Should There be Gaps between Trailer Suspension Components After Hardware is Installed

Question:

I have installed the K71-448-00 kit on my tandem trailer and noticed that there is a small gap as seen in the images at the hanger bolts springs and equalizer. This seems to be due to the stepped bolts which prevent tightening any further. The stock bolts were not stepped thus were tightened more to eliminate the space. The springs and hangers are not worn. Is this normal? Should I add a washer behind the nut to eliminate the space? I am worried that the extra space will allow movement that was previously not there. Thanks,

Trailer suspension needs to be able to move to function properly. If you were to tighten down the shackle bolts and nuts to point that all gaps were removed and the components were tight to each other you'd have suspension that doesn't move. So you can leave the gaps you have now and everything will function fine.
