Determining the Axle Capacity of a Travel Trailer With Bearing Numbers and Spindle Measurements

Question:

I have a 11 foot, single axle travel trailer 1967. Im unable to locate any stamp on the axle that indicates its capacity. The information I do have is: spindle size where the inner bearing sits is 1.3735 inches and spindle size where the outer bearing sits is 1.0615 inches. Inner bearing # is LM 48548 and seal # is 17406. Outer bearing # is L44649. Thanks for any help. Im trying to buy the correct leaf springs for this trailer.

Based on the bearing and seal part numbers that you provided as well as your measurements, your trailer probably has a 3,500 lb axle. I also recommend checking the outer diameter of your axle tube. If it is a 3,500 lb axle, then it should have an outer diameter of either 2-3/8 inches or 3 inches.

If you can tell me the diameter of your axle and whether you need double eye springs or slipper springs, I would be happy to provide some recommendations for you. Can you also tell me if your trailer currently has leaf spring hangers welded to the frame and if you need a u-bolt kit to attach the springs to the axle. If you already have the spring hangers welded to the frame, can you provide the distance between them on center?

If you need everything (leaf springs, spring hangers, u-bolt kit, hardware) I can provide you with that as well. I have attached 2 trailer suspension FAQ articles for you to check out as well as a link to our trailer suspension parts.
