Recommended Roof Rack For A 2011 Subaru Outback

Question:

1st question, can the OEM roof bars on the Subaru be used? or do we need to purchase separate mounting bars... Thule vs Yakama, is there a significant difference between them and do you recommend one over the other. We are a family of 4, a 3-1/2 yr. old and 6 mo. old and will use it for family trips

You can definitely use the factory bars on your 2011 Subaru Outback to attach crossbars to. This is their intended purpose and we have several options available. If you wanted to compare the Thule and Yakima options though, Thule does have the most aerodynamic crossbar on the market. This makes them the quieter option.

With that said, I recommend going with the Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars # TH711220 and # TH710401 feet to attach them to your roof. These are quick and easy to install and remove and gives you a 220 pound capacity, but you will need to verify the load capacity of your roof in your owner's manual. The 47" long crossbars give you a good amount of room for cargo as well. Especially if you were looking at a cargo box, like the Thule Force XT L Rooftop Cargo Box # TH6357B
