Recommended A-Frame Trailer Jack for 7000 lb Trailer
Question:
I have trailer w/four wheels that has a gross wt of 7000 lbs. I will be hauling a classic car. I need to replace a thru hitch jack that has a triangle mount. I would like a wheel so I can move it myself but will settle for a pad.

You will need to choose a jack whose capacity exceeds the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer. Typically trailer tongue weight is 10-15 percent of the weight of the trailer. This means that when loaded to maximum, your tongue weight would vary between 700 and 1050 lbs.
I recommend the Bulldog A-Frame Jack, part # BD1550101344. A foot is available, part # PS1400700340. A caster is also offered, part # BD500245. Keep in mind that once a caster is added the capacity will be reduced to 1000 lbs, which is the maximum capacity of the caster.
If possible, you will want to load your trailer as you would typically tow it and use a truck scale to confirm the tongue weight as outlined in the FAQ article I have linked.
