The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement # TFREXC4 for your 2002 Ford Excursion that you referenced has an overall height of 5 inches according to my technical contact at Timbren. I pulled a set of these from the warehouse and measured them as you will see in the picture, the actual spring measures 5 inches and the bracket measures 1-9/16 inch to give you a total of 6-9/16 inches.
The difference between a Timbren suspension system and an air bag system, is that the air setup allows for more adjust ability but at the same time requires more monitoring whereas the Timbren is basically a set it and forget it setup.
A compatible air spring system for your vehicle is the Air Lift Suspension # AL57340. This system has the following airbag dimensions: 7.7 inch maximum height: 2.3 inch compressed height: and, 6.5 inch diameter. When you are using an air system, you will need to regularly check the air in your bags. An option for monitoring and controlling the air in the airbags is by using the Air Lift Load Controller II compressor # AL25592. This unit automatically restores air spring pressure when it is registering too low.
Using either of these systems does not increase the weight capacity of your vehicle, they only assist in keeping your vehicle level when hauling loads in the vehicle.
If you are experiencing sag when towing your enclosed trailer, a weight distribution system like Reese # RP66074 would be the best option. Without knowing the tongue weight of your trailer, I cannot make a specific recommendation. Once you know the tongue weight, you can select a system from the link I have provided. I have also attached a short installation video of this system.
Installation instructions are attached for each of the noted parts as well as a Timbren FAQ article covering their suspension enhancement systems and an FAQ article on weight distribution systems.
